ROUNDING THE BASES
Each game is a mission where we have to get from homeplate back to homeplate with a few casualties as possible.
A baseball casualty is:
FRUSTRATION
DISTRACTION
LOSS OF CONFIDENCE
Our ultimate goal is to REALIZE TEAM POTENTIAL AND LIMIT CASUALTIES WE MUST DISPLAY THESE OPERATING TRAITS.
Home to 1st: HUMBLY accept success
Expect success, but when it occurs, humbly accept the success and do not act in a way which will alienate others
When we beat other teams, act like you have done it before!
Realize winning that day is a small “battle” in a larger “War”
CELEBRATIONS WILL HAPPEN, just in appropriate ways and at appropriate times
1st to 2nd: Good Teammate, Growth Mindset
If a teammate makes a mistake WE PICK THEM UP, NOT BURY THEM!
We ask ourself, “How can I play a role in my teammates improvement?”
When we play well, WE DO NOT MAKE OTHERS FEEL BAD ABOUT THEIR PERFORMANCE
We also do not SELF AGRANDIZE!
When we FAIL, we FAIL FORWARD. Failure is NOT FATAL! We view all failures as an opportunity to improve our techniques and learn from failure.
WE CELEBRATE OUR TEAMMATES SUCCESSES! MUDITA FOREVER!
2nd to 3rd: RISE TO THE OCCASION
There will come a time when EXECUTION will be the only thing that can save our season.
If we have not taken care of 1st and 2nd base, Rising to the occasion becomes inherently far more difficult.
We must take care of all of our business so that when the time comes, WE ARE ABLE to effectivley rise to the occasion as well as we can
“BE ABLE TO GIVE YOUR BEST WHEN YOUR BEST IS NEEDED”
3rd to HOME: REALIZE TEAM POTENTIAL
By rising to the occasion more times than not, our team will be able to meet our stated goals and reach our potential as a program.
